James Govan has extensive experience in litigation, particularly in the field of compensation law, with 15 years post-admission experience in city and regional practices. James is Practice Co ordinator of the Firm’s Wollongong office and is committed, along with the firm, to providing practical and reliable legal service to clients in the Illawarra region.
Professional Experience
James was admitted into legal practice in 1995 and since joining Carroll & O’Dea in April 2002 James has conducted many large and complex litigated matters, including high profile claims such as Godfrey v SNSW and Bennett v Manly Council & Anor.
In April 2008 James returned to Wollongong to open the Wollongong office of Carroll and O’Dea.
James is an experienced advocate appearing regularly in various jurisdictions, representing clients in Court, at settlement conferences, conciliations and arbitrations.
Professional Qualification
James holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree from Wollongong University and graduated law through the Sydney University Solicitors Admission Board course. James was admitted to practice in 1995 and joined Carroll & O’Dea in 2002, having gained experience working in several other large city firms. James is a Senior Associate of the Firm.
