Professional Experience
David is a NSW Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law and has extensive experience in dispute resolution across various jurisdictions.  David joined the Newcastle office of Carroll & O’Dea in 2010 as an Associate Partner.  Prior to this, David had been a partner in a Newcastle firm for 17 years where he obtained extensive experience resolving disputes and compensation claims through his expertise in conciliation, mediation and informal settlement conferences acting for individuals and businesses.

David has also appeared in State and Federal Industrial Tribunals and works closely with our Employment Law Group to provide assistance to Employees and Employers in the Newcastle, Hunter and North Coast regions.

David has appeared in Local and District Courts in a whole range of Criminal matters where he has represented clients accused of a criminal offence and he has prosecuted a number of offences on behalf of NSW Government agencies. David continues to provide Criminal Law advice to clients of Carroll & O’Dea.

David has been involved in a number of professional organisations including the Hunter Valley Law Society (past president), Injury Compensation Committee of the Law Society of New South Wales, NSW branch of the Australia Lawyers Alliance and the Users Group for the Workers Compensation Commission of NSW.

David was involved in the significant case of Robert Soutar -v- Pacific Bay Investments Pty Limited trading as Coffs Harbour Pacific Bay Resort [2011] NSW WCC 480 which established a link between occupational exposure to tick bites and Lyme like illness.

David as a consequence of his involvement in that case continues to fight for the rights of Australians who are affected by Lyme or Lyme like illness.

David is actively involved in his local community and has assisted a number of sporting and not-for-profit-organisations by providing advice as to structure and compliance with statutory responsibilities for Incorporated Associations.

Professional Qualifications
David graduated from Macquarie University in 1991 (BLegS) and was admitted to the legal profession in 1991.
