Community involvement

Carroll & O'Dea has a long history of supporting community-based and Church organisations.

Michael O'Dea and Tony Carroll have both been made members of the
Order of Australia in recognition of their services to the community.

Howard Harrison (Managing Partner) and Michael O'Dea are both recipients of the Edmund Rice Bicentenary Medal
for extraordinary work done for the Mission of the Christian Brothers.

Michael O'Dea was a recipient from the Provincial of the Jesuits of the Jubilee Medal of the First
Companions for his community service.

Tim Concannon is a board member of the Brain Injury Association.

Maithri Panagoda is a director of the AustraLanka Helpline which has been set up to provide relief
to children in Sri Lanka who were orphaned by the tsunami in 2004.

Peter Punch was a director of Marist Youth Care, the social welfare arm of the Marist Brothers,
from 1995 to December 2002.

Adrian O'Dea serves on a number of community organisations, including:
- member of the Executive Board of Charingfield Ltd, a Not for Profit aged care facility
- member of the Advisory Board of The Little Sisters of the Poor

Tony Carroll has been involved in numerous charitable organisations including:
- member of the Governing Body of College of Advanced Education Sydney Limited, a College
of Advanced Education and also a member of one of its predecessor Colleges from 1980 to 1991
- Senator of the Australian Catholic University from 1991 to 1998
- Chairman for New South Wales Chapter of Australian Catholic University from 1997 to 2000
- member of the Board of Mercy Family Centre, Waitara (a Family Welfare Centre) for 30 years,
the last 3 years as Deputy Chairman
- member of the Board of Meter Dei Special School at Camden for 10 years

Our firm continues to work closely with a range of community organisations. We are currently proud to
be involved in the raising of funds for Camp Go Ahead - a camp run by Sydney Children's Hospital and
the Children's Hospital at Westmead for children and adolescents who have an acquired brain injury.

Carroll & O'Dea has a long tradition of pro bono work. Our pro bono program has included carrying out
legal work in-house on a no fee or reduced fee basis, serving on the boards of clients' community projects,
schools, hospitals, law society committees, assisting on a voluntary basis in community legal centres
and entering into secondment arrangements with community legal centres and the Public Interest
Law Clearing House (PILCH).
