National Recognition (HR Award)

Carroll and O'Dea received the National QL Award for Outstanding Contribution and Innovation to
Human Resources within a Legal Firm in 2001.

The Award recognised "Workaway" which was an internally developed and produced two day program.
The content of the program enabled our one hundred staff members to contribute and own the ongoing
strategic direction of the hundred- year- old firm.

The Managing Partner at the time, Michael O'Dea commented, "The firm was very honoured to be
recognised by its peers. Carroll and O'Dea has long recognised the need to invest in its staff and is
committed to continually strengthening the human resource function of the business."

The Workaway program was developed internally as an initiative aimed at creating and improving staff
relationships, improving staff morale and team interaction. The Partners of Carroll and O'Dea have long
recognised the need and importance for all staff to have input and ownership into the firm. Workaway 2001
allowed staff to communicate, discuss and own many of the strategic outcomes associated with the firm
wide retreat. Due to its success in 2001, the Workaway program has been repeated on an annual basis.
