Current Practice
Paul O' Callaghan has expertise in litigation, dispute resolution and employment law. While remaining
based in Newcastle with the establishment of a new Carroll & O'Dea office, Paul has a permanent presence
in Sydney and will continue to service clients in all other areas covered by his existing practice.

Professional Experience
Paul O' Callaghan has over 35 years of experience in the areas of Litigation, Dispute Resolution
and Employment Law. Paul has developed an excellent reputation representing injured parties in all
jurisdictions and has been involved several major test cases. Paul was admitted as a solicitor in 1974 and
left Carroll & O'Dea in 1976 to return to Newcastle. He then joined a specialist compensation practice
assisting injured union members throughout Newcastle, Hunter and the North Coast as well as Gosford,
Sydney and other areas of general practice. Paul was a Partner for 29 years, during which he had
responsibilities of a Managing Partner. Paul returned to Carroll & O'Dea in January 2007 to obtain access
to the substantial resources and expertise available at the firm, to be able to service existing and potential
clients over a wide geographical region and diverse areas of law.

Professional Background
Paul obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney in 1972 and his Bachelor of Law degree
from the University of Sydney in 1974. In 1993, Paul was accredited as a specialist in personal injury
law by the Law Society of New South Wales. He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of
New South Wales in 1974 and as a solicitor of the High Court of Australia in 1976. He was also admitted
as a Local and District Court Arbitrator in 1983, a CARS Assessor in 2003 and a Local Court Arbitrator
in Newcastle and Gosford in 2006. Paul has become a Partner at Carroll & O'Dea in 2007.
