Current Practice
Anthony Powter, Special Counsel within our Employment &
Industrial Law Group has extensive experience dealing with workplace
issues, in particular enterprise bargaining. His expertise covers
all aspects of employment and industrial law including unfair
dismissal, drafting and interpreting employment contracts,
industrial disputes, award and agreement interpretation and
enforcement, enterprise bargaining, discrimination in employment and
occupational health and safety.
Over the course of his career, Anthony has acted primarily for
employers and has assisted many companies to negotiate and establish
enterprise agreements, particularly in the building and construction
sector, as well as handled numerous industrial disputes and
Occupational Health & Safety matters.
In recent years his focus has been on advice, both specific and
strategic, to major employers, particularly regarding enterprise
bargaining, occupational health and safety and compliance matters.
Professional Experience
Anthony has been writing, advising and acting in employment and
industrial relations matters for over 16 years. Prior to joining
Carroll & O'Dea, Anthony had worked for a number of employer
associations, including the Chamber of Manufactures, as well as
Metal & Allied Trades Federation and later as a legal
practitioner with a mid tier Sydney law firm. He also has
contributed to CCH publications and guides in the areas of
enterprise bargaining and termination of employment, as well as
presented numerous seminars on the topic.
