Topic: Land Rights movement
For this year’s NAIDOC theme of “Our Elders”, Angela Bates will discuss the Land Rights movement and what her and her family achieved during that time. Angela will also provide insight into her many work achievements, including how she set up the first nightly National Indigenous television News service in 2008 as its inaugural Executive Producer and overseeing its rapid growth.
About the speaker
Angela Bates hails from country New South Wales and is a proud Aboriginal and Maori woman. Angela Bates was previously the Development and Investment Manager for Screen Australia’s First Nations Department, where she managed a slate of projects from feature film, TV drama series and children’s animation to documentaries, including We Are Still Here (a co-production between Australia and New Zealand), award-winning TV drama Total Control Series 2, Little J & Big Cuz 3, Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky, Maralinga and a new TV crime drama, True Colours.
