Emily Katheklakis

Emily Katheklakis has over 25 years of experience in personal injury law and civil litigation. She has achieved successful outcomes for clients across the whole spectrum of personal injury matters, including complex medical negligence claims, psychological or physical injuries in the workplace, slip and falls, motor accidents, injuries whilst in detention and for people who have suffered from childhood abuse.

Emily has a great deal of experience in relation to claims against the State of New South Wales (particularly the Department of Communities and Justice) arising from childhood abuse. Emily has successfully resolved many of these claims in a sensitive way and with a view to making the claim process as stress-free as possible for her clients.

Due to her depth of knowledge and expertise in this area, Emily has been appointed to the Law Society Specialist Legal Practitioners Panel For Minors And Young Adults in Civil Claims Against the State and/or Other Bodies, whereby the Law Society refers young persons to her to investigate potential claims.

Emily is an experienced advocate, with extensive negotiation and advocacy skills, representing clients at mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations and conciliations when it matters.

Emily appears regularly in the courts and tribunals which adjudicate on compensation matters. These include the specialist tribunals commissioned to hear compensation law matters, as well as the Local Court, District Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

• Emily has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from Australian National University. Emily was admitted to practice in 1995.
• She is admitted as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court, Federal Court and High Court.
• Emily joined Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers in November 1995 and became Special Counsel in July 2018.
• Emily is a member of the Legal Aid General Civil Law Panel and also the Law Society’s Specialist Legal Practitioner’s Panel for Minors and Young Adults in Civil Claims against the State and other Bodies.
