Lawyer – Sydney NSW

Carroll & O’Dea is a mid-tier law firm with offices in Sydney, Parramatta, Wollongong, Newcastle, Hobart and Melbourne. We offer specialist legal services in litigation and dispute resolution, property, employment & industrial relations and plaintiff personal injury law. Our clients include a broad cross-section of corporate, government, not for profit, SME and personal clients.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Lawyer to join our Compensation, Public Liability and Litigation team on a 12‑month parental leave contract, based in our Sydney CBD office. Supporting a Partner, this role is ideal for candidates who thrive in a busy and varied work environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Direct liaising with clients and providing accurate and timely advice.
  • Preparing Court documents and attending the Supreme/District Court of NSW and the Personal Injury Commission for hearings and interlocutory matters.;
  • Attending, mediations and informal settlement conferences.
  • Briefing Counsel and experts.

Successful candidates will have:

  • A valid NSW Practising Certificate (essential).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ PAE in Personal Injury/Compensation Law (essential).
  • A demonstrated understanding of personal injury law and Court procedures (essential).
  • The ability to maintain client confidentiality and handle matters with sensitivity.
  • The capacity for strong negotiation, mediation & advocacy skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated strong client relationship and business development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and manage competing deadlines.
  • Dedicated to providing a positive client experience.
  • Motivated to succeed and support colleagues to also achieve their path of success.
  • Open to mentoring younger members of the firm.
