Trust Officer – Sydney NSW

Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers is a mid-tier law firm that provides legal services in the areas of Compensation, Personal Services, Community & Associations, and Business. We specialise in litigation, advisory, and transaction work across various practice areas. This role is within our Finance team, based in Sydney CBD, with additional offices in Parramatta, Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, Wollongong, and Melbourne.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Trust Officer to join our Finance team, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Finance team, a core business service function, comprises a small team of six, providing finance and accounting support for trust accounts and day-to-day finance operations across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead responsibility for Trust Account transactions and compliance
  • Manage daily processing and allocation of funds for accuracy
  • Oversee Trust to Office transfers, ensuring compliance and maintaining records
  • Lead the annual Trust Audit in collaboration with the CFO
  • Resolve solicitor/legal support queries related to Trust matters
  • Provide backup for monthly management reporting and disbursement pool reconciliations
  • Assist with supplier and disbursement processing
  • Manage the Controlled Monies function
  • Assist in the reconciliation of Trust and Office bank accounts
  • Manage accounts receivable (Trust banking and receipting direct deposits)
  • Oversee daily and monthly filing

Successful Candidates Will Have

  • Business/Accounting Degree and CPA qualification or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience, ideally in a professional services environment
  • Experience with iManage and a legal software package (preferred)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated high levels of accuracy and efficiency
