Sophia Chen is a senior corporate and commercial lawyer. She is based in the firm’s Sydney and Melbourne offices.
Prior to joining Carroll and O’Dea Lawyers, Sophia held senior in-house legal roles at multinational companies including in the financial services and technology sectors. In addition to legal expertise, she holds an Executive MBA (With Excellence) as well as board, company secretary and other leadership roles in the not-for-profit sector.
Sophia has advised a diverse range of clients. She provides strategic and pragmatic advice on complex matters including M&A, ESG, governance, charity law, corporate law, IP and IT, cybersecurity and privacy, general contracts and commercial law. She brings a blend of legal expertise, business acumen and a customer-centric approach.
She also brings strong China capability through her language proficiency, translation expertise and cross-cultural understanding.

- Sophia graduated with a double degree of Bachelor of Laws and Arts (Government and International Relations) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Executive MBA (With Excellence) from the University of New South Wales through the Australian Graduate School of Management.
- Sophia has been a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors since 2025.
- Sophia is a proficient Mandarin translator and interpreter, with experience in servicing Chinese clients at top tier law firms.
- Sophia is a present director of the Leprosy Mission Australia, including its Governance and Risk Committee. She is also a present company secretary, former director and warden of St Mark’s Darling Point and the St Mark’s Darling Point Cultural Trust.
