Stolen generations litigation in NSW; and news on the NSW State Legal Conference in August
Published on July 10, 2013 by Howard Harrison
Maithri Panagoda a Partner at Carroll & O’Dea has written an article in the most recent edition of Precedent, the magazine of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, on Stolen Generations Litigation in NSW.
The paper explores the Australian Government’s policy of assimilation at the time, and the power of the Aborigines Protection Act 1909, as well as key cases, causes of action, breach of general duty at common law, damages, court proceedings and statutory limitations.
As uncomfortable as this aspect of Australia’s history might be, I would encourage you all to read the paper if you would like to know more about the legal aspects.
Three senior lawyers from our firm will be speaking at the NSW State Legal Conference in August.
David Jones, Partner from our Newcastle office will be speaking as part of the Civil Liability Update.
Maithri Panagoda, Partner, will speak as part of the Workers Compensation Update; and Janine Smith, Senior Associate E&IR will speak on and Work Health and Safety.
You can see the full program and other speakers here.
